When my parents were in town last week, we had two very Dutch evenings. One was spent cruising the canals of Amsterdam with a picnic dinner and friends Paul and Andrea. Nana and Pops each got a turn at the steer. The evening was cut short by an unexpected downpour (like I said, a very Dutch evening). We were happy to have driven into the city as it was a very cold, wet ride home! On our last evening in Amsterdam, we had our Dutch neighbors over for a BBQ. Vicky and Ton asked if they could bring a traditional Dutch food, Hollandse nieuwe haring as an appetizer. Dutch herring is served with chopped onions and pickles and eaten whole, down the gullet! And while we are happy to show my parents the Dutch lifestyle, they are happy to have the time to hang with Jude.
