Rainy Day Fun

There was one rainy day in the middle of our trip and it seemed like a good time to visit Marineland. It was no SeaWorld, but certainly entertained with the parrot, seal, and impressive dolphin shows. 

The scenery was stunning, even in the rainy fog.

We had a cozy afternoon at home by the fire before heading into the village for another lovely meal.

Rest Day at the Casa

With two solid days under our belts, we all earned a day of rest at the casa. It was a really warm day so it seemed the best day for lying around in the sun.

The kids invited us all to a tea party in the tree house. 

This was as deep as she went in before freaking out about the cold. 

Chill time

Oma brought a new, fun card game and a craft kit, which entertained the kids most of the afternoon.

The grownups took turns going on walks around the village.

We drove to Galilea, the next village over, for dinner. We were swayed by the owner to order "the best pizza in Mallorca." It did not live up to the hype, but the local wine was excellent! 

Jardins d'Alfàbia and Soller Adventures

After some morning playtime at the casa, we set off for a big sightseeing day. We visited the Jardins d'Alfàbia, Soller, and the Port of Soller. 

The Jardins d'Alfàbia is a former estate in the mountains with lush grounds. The kids loved the trellised walkway that had waterworks controlled by a button and the fresh-squeezed orange and lemon juice, no matter how tart. 

 

One of the owners of the estate took a nice family photo for us. She was very pleased we'd come to visit. 

Then it was a short drive to the mountain town of Soller. It was so busy there! The crowds were a bit shocking, but we were told Easter week is prime tourist time on the island. We stopped for lunch on the plaza facing the cathedral where the wait staff could not have been kinder. Lunchtime sangria in Spain cannot be beat. After lunch, we boarded the historic cable car for the 20-minute ride down to the beach at the Port de Soller

Some treats (Soller oranges sorbet!) and a short time at the beach before catching the cable car back and continuing our drive home.

Oma and Opa stayed in with the kids so Pete and I could have a date night in town.
