Delicious Pizza and Farewells

Thursday morning, we noticed that Jude had a huge heat rash over his trunk :( He was complaining of it itching and it looked pretty bad. So any time in the sun was out. The morning also turned rainy so it was a good excuse to lay low at the apartment. Gia had looked up some reviews for lunch places in the hopes that we would find a winner and we did! We took one bite of the prosciutto crudo pizza with buffalo mozzarella and all looked at each other like, "This! This is it!" The crust, the sauce, the cheese. So delicious! Also delicious was Maeve covered in pesto sauce smiling at the waitress.
Mama Mia!! It was too delicious to stop and take a picture!
Sardinia has colonies of pink flamingos and I really hoped we'd see them, but were told they were nesting in the region where we were staying. An excuse to come back :)

In the afternoon, Paul, Andrea and Ella arrived at the resort as we all lounged pool side.

We had some amazing roof top sunset times the last few nights, with the last night in particular knocking our socks off with the sunset and a double rainbow!

Another chill day on our last day. Gia had come down with a stomach bug and stayed in to recover most of the day. We went out to lunch at a spot that had a playground for the kiddos. More yummy pizza! On the way, we checked out a nearby beach, but Jude was not interested in playing. The rash was really bothering him.

She was so proud of doing this with her fork.
And then she bopped herself in the face with it!
We returned to the delicious lunch spot from the day before for a final dinner with Gia, Paul and Andrea. Hard to wrap my head around not seeing any of these friends again for a long time. After the spectacular sunset and packing, Pete and I joined Paul and Andrea for a final drink in the resort lounge to say goodbye. Farewell to our friends!

These roomies are going to miss each other!

The temps dropped, but the wind picked up on our 4th day. We had a beach morning at Cala Bandinchi, known as little Tahiti for the colorful water. A lot more seaweed here and rougher waves, but Jude had a lot of fun making a sand castle and Maeve took a peaceful snooze to the sound on the waves.

The beachside cafe had granitas (basically shaved ice) and I realized it was 2 years to the day that we were with Jude in Italy and he tried his first granita in Sienna, wearing the same hat that we purchased on that trip! We also realized it had been 2 years since we'd been in Italy. Not ok!

By the afternoon, the wind had died down and we had a blast by the resort pool. At 4pm, a few of us joined the water aerobics and it was a hilarious scene with everyone in the pool participating! And an awesome soundtrack, too!

Gia offered to babysit that night and did bedtime with Jude. She loved the request for snuggles, bonus books, "tell me a story," and "sing me a song." Thus began Jude's love of the wagon wheel song. Pete and I went to a restaurant associated with an agriturismo and despite high hopes, it was also a miss.

Road Trip!

Day three was a scorcher and we had a lazy morning by the pool before embarking on our one big adventure of the week. As mentioned, Pete and Gia love some craft beer and both had researched breweries on the island. We drove a little over an hour south through some mountainous scenery while the kids slept. We found the brewery, but just did a drive by to try to keep the kids sleeping. We continued on and without a destination in mind, ended up at the Spiagglia (beach) di Su Barone. There were some nice pine trees, providing much needed shade. We had a treat at the beach front cafe and Jude and Pete played a bit in the water before retreating to the air conditioned car. Then we stopped by the brewery in earnest. The brewer appeared quite busy when we subtly tried to ask about a tasting and instead directed us to the grocer around the corner, which sold their beer. We had fun buying a lot of local products and of course the beer and Sardinia wine. We drove back and went back to the first restaurant we found as we couldn't find any others in the area that were open at 6pm. It was pasta night and was delicious. Jude did so well eating his pasta civilized, twirling it around his fork. Maeve on the other hand was an adorable hot mess with her pasta! Boy was she happy about it, too! She is such a smiley baby!

Lunchtime by the pool
Road trip! We were probably jamming to Despacito, our theme song for the week.

So ready for dinner. Clean, for now.

If you frequent the same restaurant twice, I guess they like you and give you local Mirto (myrtle liquor). Saluti!
Back at the resort, I got the pool to myself with an evening dip. This is the life!
