Innsbruck Day 2: Take Us to the Mountains!

From the center of Innsbruck, you can take a series of cable cars all the way to the top of the snow capped mountains. Along the first tram route, there is an Alpine zoo. At the top of the second is a restaurant and free winter sports play area and at the top of the third and final cable car, there are views galore. It made for a complete day of fun. We had been talking about this trip for a while with Jude and promising him snow and sledding so we were glad we could deliver. He just loved it and it was a joy to see. It was also a joy to see both grandfathers equally gleeful on various sleds and skis. Maeve mostly stayed indoors out of the wind, but briefly enjoyed a short, adorable sled ride.

Austrians know how to do comfort food. Spatzles, sausages and goulash with local beer made up lunch. Hot cocoa for snack time and a fine dinner out at a local spot with Tiroler Grostl, more spatzle, wiener schnitzel, dumplings and Austrian wine.

At the very top, a few of us made the very windy climb to the summit while the kiddos napped. No real mountain climbing was involved, though Pops enjoyed posing. Our visit to the zoo on the way back down the mountain was brief, but we got a see a huge brown bear up close and personal!

Jude will have some Maeve for dinner..
