Day 2 in Budapest

We had an evening flight home the following day so we had a full day left to explore Budapest. Our friends headed out early for their flight so it was just the 4 of us. We headed to the river again to take a boat tour that we had missed the first day. I wanted to see all of the big sights without all of the walking/transiting around. It was another gorgeous day and a fun little tour.

 Pete pointed out that a lot of signs ended in ! Sometimes it was fitting, sometimes just comical.

Jude was spent after the boat trip and quickly passed out in the stroller. We walked to the central Metro 1 station- the oldest electric metro system in Europe! It felt a bit like riding a Disney ride. The train was so short and cute. As we were validating our tickets, a female attendant approached us and I thought that we had done something wrong. Instead, she saw Maeve's bow was falling out of her hair and she gave her a new do with it :) So forward and friendly!

 

We took the metro to the large city park and sat down to lunch at a lake-side cafe. Jude continued to snooze, snooze, snooze. Maeve continued to eat, eat, eat. The park was really pretty with a mini Central-park vibe. There were the famous Hungarian baths housed in a gorgeous building, a castle, a zoo, a lake with paddle boats and playgrounds of course. We could have spent a lot more time there if we hadn't had to make our way to the airport.

We had a shuttle ride back to the airport. The only car seats they had were toddler forward facing ones. So we made do and strapped Maeve in. Between the wiggle room, first time facing forward and the stop and go, Maeve lost her cookies (do people know what that expression means? If not, just imagine what you might do if you were really car sick). What a mess! So sorry to the stranger sitting next to her :( What a way to cap off the weekend trip!
