We saved the last day to visit the capitol, Las Palmas, the 9th largest city in Spain! As we were planing our itinerary for the day, I saw a facebook post from my Irish 3rd cousin, Paul, showing that he was headed to Las Palmas from Dublin. We tried to meet Paul on our trip to Dublin, but I had exhausted my very pregnant self with all of our walking around and didn't have the energy. Paul's grandmother, Greta, was my Grandpa Carney's cousin and would come over to visit the clan regularly during my childhood, charming us all with her accent, warmth and gifts. Paul's mother, Judy, is an artist, whose Irish oil paintings graced my grandparents' old house. Needless to say, I was thrilled that it was going to work out to meet Paul in Las Palmas!
Before the meet up, we entertained the kids at a big local playground and then Pete took Jude into the adjacent science museum.
After meeting Paul and his friend, Percy, they took us down the paseo to Olivia, where we had the best tapas and sangria of the trip! Around the corner was a delicious ice cream parlor with all our favorite flavors! And the warm sun! Such a perfect afternooon. I would have loved to have stayed on the beach in the warm sun, but the day was late and nap time was calling.
After returning home, we had one final night to enjoy the resort buffet with Jude and toast to a great trip! Time to get home for Santa's visit!
