FAM Flower Farm Tulip Heaven!

Tulip season was late this year due to the cold weather we had earlier this spring. In researching bulbs, I came across a farm, which was hosting private visits to the fields. In recent years, there have been large campaigns to keep people out of the tulip fields to keep the bulbs safe from viruses that people can bring in. It has been a bit stressful driving around looking for a field in bloom with somewhere to park and access to take photos. So the idea of private access was very appealing. I saw the ticket price as a donation to the tulip industry, which has suffered like so many other businesses during COVID.

We were booked to visit FAM Flower Farm in mid-April, but the date kept getting moved back as the farmers updated us that the fields were not yet in bloom. Finally, the day arrived the first weekend in May! We had an hour and a half split over two fields across the street from one another. There were 4 or 5 other groups of people so we all had plenty of space. There was coffee, tea, and stroopwafels, and fun setups for photos. This may be the way to go from here on out! The kids were into picking petals off the ground, but mostly kept asking when we could leave. It didn't help that we saw a playground in the distance, but we did make it there after the visit and will also be returning there in the coming years!

It was a beautiful day and I loved the contrast of the fields with the clouds. We walked up and down the tulip rows, spotting the virus flowers, admiring the new varieties, and taking in the lovely smells (the red ones smelled great).

And now, far too many photos of us and tulips!

First the pink field.

Then the fragrant red and unique yellow, with red/yellows in between.

Now the stunning peach fields and adorable pictures of the lovey kids.

Across the street, red/yellow flowers, which looked orange at a distance. I loved the way the rows curved and walked all the way to the end.

And pink and white fields:

And the full orange field- Dutch!

We had brought our bikes along so when our visit was over, we hopped on the bikes and rode to the playground that the kids had been oogling. What a perfect place for our picnic lunch and play! There was a Dutch/British girl who quickly befriended Maeve and took her around with her friends. The playground is Speeltuin de Engel for anyone who wants to check it out next year!

We took the bikes for a quick spin and found a lovely daffodil field still in bloom. We returned to the car just as the rain started. So grateful for this wonderful tulip day!
