20th Bowdoin Reunion

We were so fortunate to get to go back to Maine for our 20th college reunion with the kids. We had Dutch public holidays which aligned perfectly with the dates. The kids had an inservice day the day before reunion began so I flew over with them and had a night with Cory and kids and a half a day with Oma, Opa, Steve, Laurel, Ruthie, Chris and Renee in Concord.

We met up with Pete at Logan airport and headed up to Brunswick in time for dinner at Thorne! Such a throwback to walk into the dinning hall with our dinner trays and see familiar faces! Our class broke the record for 20th reunion attendance. Our 15th was canceled due to COVID so we were all raring to go!

Early morning at our rental in West Harpswell thanks to jetlag! A restful weekend it was not! We rented a house with Curtis, Walker, Maddie and kids and Andrew, Kinza and kids. It was so great to have friends to hang with all weekend (and Uncle Curtis to keep them entertained!). 

Hugging and catching up with old friends was the absolute best. The weather was beautiful on Friday and we enjoyed time outdoors on the quad and at the Coastal studies center. 

I wish this marine center existed when I was in school! 

Took the kids to "Fun with Physics" in the lecture hall where Pete and I first had a class together before we met (Physics sophomore year)

None of my senior year roommates could make it back, but was happy to spend time with others in our crew! 

Friday and Saturday dinners were in the Farley Fieldhouse where they had lots of entertainment for the kids.

The kids had the most fun hailing golf carts to zip us around campus. 

The weather turned Saturday and the Bowdoin umbrellas really came in handy! We floated around campus all day, eventually making our way to join a big crew for a throw back power hour (shot of beer every minute for an hour, with changing music of hits from 2001-2005 - definitely not completed!). 

In the evening, we had our 20th reunion pre-dinner reception at Boody House followed by a class photo on the museum stairs. Emotional tributes were given for two of our classmates who have passed away. They we went to the field house for our Lobster Bake. It was a scene! Back to Boody House for a movie night for the kids (Maeve was so tired and just wanted to go home, but Effie saved the day and convinced her to stay!) and after party for the grownups. Very grateful to Pete who was our DD. 

We had redeye flights home Sunday evening so had time for a leisurely morning, brunch at Thorne, a spontaneous meet up of the Bowdoin '05 Euro residents and then a trip down Harspwell for lobster rolls and ice cream before driving back to Boston.

So deliciously good!! 

Exhaustion levels were beyond. No problems sleeping on our redeye flights home! The kids and I landed around 8:30AM and I took them straight to school in the Uber. So, so worth the trip!
