We checked another Dutch town off our list, spending this beautiful spring-like day in Haarlem (the original, NYC was founded by the Dutch after all). Interestingly, the distance between our current apartment and the original Haarlem is equal to that of our Brooklyn home and Manhattan's Harlem (around 13 miles) and it took the same amount of time to get there today as it would have by subway in NYC.
It was another very charming Dutch city, often referred to as a mini Amsterdam with its own canals, churches, windmill and squares. Many shops are closed on Sundays so we had a quiet afternoon exploring, which suited us just fine as Jude took an uncharacteristic 1 1/2 hour nap in his stroller (after taking close to a 2 hour nap earlier in the morning at home- that 1st birthday party must have really worn him out!).

We stopped in the Jopen Brewery for lunch. It is located in a former church so the interior is quite striking. There is a latin phrase printed on the vaulted ceiling, which reads, "Beer is living proof that God loves us an wants us to be happy" Amen to that! Not your typical Sunday church visit, but holy and fulfilling just the same!
