A Day in Sprookjeswonderland

Fellow expats are a treasure trove of information on all things "The Netherlands." Early on, a book club friend suggested the children's theme park, Sprookjeswonderland, as a must-go destination for the toddler/pre-school set. I dutifully wrote the recommendation down, but always forgot about the park when we were looking for things to do. Yesterday, another friend posted an Instagram pic of daughter in the park, which reminded me we needed to go. Pete and Jude were off today for Good Friday and the start of their April break so we packed the car with SO MUCH STUFF and were on our way. Less than 10 minutes in, we found out the very hard way that Maeve's stomach bug was back so we had to detour home. Jude was understandably bummed so we did a quick clean up, swore to Maeve that we would one day make all of this up to her and hit the road yet again. 

Sprookjes translates to Fairy Tales and it really was a magical day. Paris Disneyland is celebrating 25 years so we have talked a bit about going, but decided to hold off until Maeve is old enough to really enjoy it. This place fit the bill for us at this stage. Any kid older than 6 may be bored here, but Jude had the best time and said over and over, "this is so much fun." Music to parents' ears. 

The sword automatically starts to come out of the stone and then the platform vibrates, to Jude's sheer joy. 

Requisite Goat Farm within the park. Maeve handled it much better this time. 

Fairytale land- Each little house had an animated scene of a different fairy tale. Jude loved this part.

I loved the grounds, buildings and landscaping.  

At the far end of the (albeit small) park, there is an amazing playground half of which would be outlawed in America as a lawsuit waiting to happen. We had a lot of fun there, though!

Poor sick Maeve spent the day chilling in the stroller or being cuddled, but was happy to participate in a few things. It will be fun to return in a few years when she is also enchanted by it all!

And the views from the car on the hour long drive to and from weren't too shabby.
