Weekend in Krakow Part II

Our second day in Krakow was Mother's Day (US/Dutch, not Polish). My gifts were homemade tchotchkes shoved in my sleeping face at 8:30am and a schedule massage at a nearby hotel spa. The later was really lovely and afterwards I took some time to myself to get a Lody (Ice cream- shops and stands were on practically every block with people of all ages consuming it of all hours of the day) and wander through the Jewish quarter. That bit was sobering given the history of what happened to the Polish Jews in WWII.

Pete went playground hopping with the kids, crossing the Vistula river via this really cool pedestrian bridge. 

We went to one of the Kazimierz's food truck hot spots for a lunch. It wasn't until after we arrived in Poland that I remembered my childhood love (and weekly meal) of Polish kielbsa served over rice. I had a major craving, which was satisfied at a sausage stand. 

 

The neighborhood was really hopping on a Sunday afternoon. 

We decided to return to the Old town to take in some more sights. I wanted to see in a few churches and visit some other corners of the town. 

Jude enjoys his potty talk and we enjoy punishing him with tickles and threats of putting him in the garbage!

This street fair would have been a lot of fun if it hadn't started raining on us! 

The rain and cold drove us back to our apartment. There, we discovered Maeve had a fever so the rest of my mother's day was spent face timing our moms and cuddling my baby girl.

While out getting pizza, Pete had the recommended mad dog shot (vodka, raspberry syrup and Tabasco sauce). He enjoyed it. I would not have! 

Monday was our travel day home. We found a nice cafe for a final breakfast before making our way to the airport. Sick Maeve spent most of the day sleeping. Her sickness continued through her birthday and turned into another ear infection. She's having surgery tomorrow to put tubes in her ears and maybe remove her adenoids so I hope that she will have a healthy streak in the near future!
