Pete went out for a morning run in Almograve. Our AirBnB was just 1 km from the coast, but having arrived late, we didn't check it out that first evening even though I was dying to see the sunset over the ocean. Pete shared some pictures he took on his run and then I was rushing us out the door to get there!
It was a beautiful rocky coast with interesting vegetation and little beach coves. We drove a length of coast before returning back to go to the main beach, Praia do Almograve. I really loved this beach. The tide was going out, which revealed a lot of tide pools along the rocky shore. The kids and parents loved exploring them. There was one beach cafe just above the beach with picture-perfect views where we enjoyed lunch. Luckily for the kids, hamburgers were on almost all of the menus! While we were on this trip, a number of friends back in the US were having East Coast beach weeks of their own. It gave me peace to look out over the Atlantic and imagine friends enjoying the same ocean on the other side. It helped me to feel not so far away.

It was a 1-hour drive further South to the Algarve, to our home for the next 6 nights in Lagos. I booked the AirBnB based on the views, proximity to a beach (right above), and the pool. The views did not disappoint! I could have spent all day just staring out to the coast. It really made for a memorable trip.
After a home cooked meal, we went down to see our beach, Praia Dona Ana. There wasn't much sun left, but the kids didn't mind running in and out of cold waves!
And then we had our first of 6 nights falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing (no mosquitos here!).
