When Gia was planning her trip to visit us, she expressed a desire to add some more stops to her itinerary and Belgium was high on her list. On black Friday while everyone back home was recovering from their gluttony, we got up early and headed to Belgium! Our first stop was Westmalle, one of the 6 trappist breweries in Belgium. Like the others, you can't actually tour the abbey or the brewery, but we at least got to enjoy the beer fresh in the cafe across the street. We brought the average age in the place WAY down!

Then it was off to Bruges! Pete and I visited Bruges with Opa and Oma when we first arrived in August so while I didn't intend to return so soon, I was very glad that we did! It is a charming city and even more so in the late autumn glow and all decorated for Christmas. It was complete with a Christmas market and ice skating rink in the town square. As with any trip to Belgium, we had to get a waffle with chocolate sauce ASAP!

The town was hopping even though it was a weekday. There may have been more horse drawn carriages than when we were there in August. All of the passengers were bundled under blankets looking so cozy!

Of course we spent a good chunk of our time in Bruges at the Halve Maan brewery, where Jude charmed all of our neighbors and got some good looks when he gnawed on the beer glass (he didn't drink it I promise!).
