While my parents spent the day in Florence, Pete and I took the car to explore the countryside near Castelfiorentino. Chianti was just to the East of us so we took off in search of some good vino! We drove to Castellina in Chianti, a small hill town that was very quiet. The main eateries on the town squares were packed. We peered through an empty hotel restaurant and saw a lovely terrace overlooking the hills. We had the whole place to ourselves and Jude was treated like a king!

Bellies full of pasta and Chianti, we drove off to loop back home through San Donato in Poggio. It was clearly siesta time in this tiny village. I hopped out to snap some pictures of the Palio banners hanging in the alleyways while Jude snoozed in the car.

As we were on our way back to the Agriturismo, Pete suggested we drive on to San Gimignano. We didn't have much time there before Jude's dinner and bedtime, but it was a really well preserved, lively town. Lots of cute boutiques and windy streets. Here, we bought Jude's adorable Italia hat.
Google Maps took us along the most gorgeous drive home along a ridge with villas and vineyards around every turn! I do my best to take pictures out the car windows. Occasionally I get a good one :)
