The Fairytale Town Cesky Krumlov

Linz is very close to the border with the Czech Republic and only a little over an hour from the fairytale town of Cesky Krumlov in Lower Bohemia. I don't know where I'd first heard about this gem, but there was a star on my Google Map and we were all excited to see it. We went on a gorgeous Friday. The drive there follows the Vlteva river and I have never seen so many floating vessels on a body of water (not counting SAIL Amsterdam!). There were packed campsites lining the river and thousands of people in boats floating down it in the direction of Cesky Krumlov.

We had made our own reservation for a traditional wood boat ride on the river, but had a little time before boarding to wander through the town.

The colors didn't seem real!

We got a private boat ride being the only English speakers. Each boat is manned by two people with poles to help guide the boat (the water is very shallow). There were two "rapids" sections we went through, which was fun. After floating into town, we pulled up to a bar and got beers and ice creams. The good life!

We had a big Czech lunch and drinks and then walked it off exploring. We were all surprised to see that the enclosure below the castle was home to bears! They were fun to watch for a while. I love how colorful the Castle was, especially the iconic tower.

Some ice cream and a stroll along the river and up to the castle gardens to end a beautiful day!
