San Gimignano

We spent a few hours Thursday morning in San Gimignano, the one locale we had visited back in 2015. They were having their weekly market, which sounded more exciting than it was in reality. Mostly cheap clothing stalls instead of artisanal products. We didn't have any "must-sees" in town, so we just wandered as much as the kids would allow (which is not much). Maeve had her heart set on pizza for lunch (again?!), so we had to pass by lovely little trattorias and settle on a touristy joint, which was ok in the end. A local playground entertained the kids for a while and we set off to find another just as the skies opened up. We got properly soaked on our walk back to the cars! The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing and hiding from the rain before the pasta dinner.

San Gimignano is known for its towers, built by wealthy families to display their power. I'm not one for d*@k contests, but appreciate the architectural beauty.

We found some good gelato and milkshakes
