Bruges and Ghent, Belgium- Part 1

From Westvleteren we made our way to Ghent, our home base for the next two days. The car ride was not the greatest with a screaming, teething baby and a road closure to the main road into Ghent. When we finally arrived, Jude was way out of sorts and after an hour of trying to get him to sleep, we decided to strap him on and "wear him down" while exploring Ghent. While frustrating, it allowed us to see Ghent at night, which was really magical.
Opa, keeping his cool behind the wheel in less than ideal circumstances!
While our intended destination was Bruges, famous for it's charm, Pete's former Belgian co-worker suggested we stay in Ghent. While both cities are charming, Bruges, she said was rebuilt to look that way, while Ghent was a real city where people worked and lived.
Ghent at night.

It really sank in that we live in Europe now when we walked around the city.
It worked- he fell asleep.. until he woke up an hour or so later... Poor jet-lagged, teething baby!
The next day we took off for Bruges. What a beautiful city! Highlights included our stop at the Halve Maan brewery for lunch with Brian and Laurel, the canal boat ride and photographing the picturesque alleyways, facades and canals.

Belgium is alright mom and dad, but check out my feet!!
