After fulfilling our quest for iconic Belgian french fries (pommes frites) and chocolates the previous day in Bruges, we started out our final day in search of Belgian waffles in Ghent. Now, we expect to run into people we know occasionally in New York, especially Brooklyn, but it is a rare occurrence to run into someone you know in another country! Having found a waffle spot, we were just about to dig in when a Bowdoin friend walked by! Caroline and her husband Scott are living in London and were with their friend Kristine who happens to live in Amsterdam. Caroline had acquainted Kristine and I by e-mail when she heard we were moving here. Kristine and I had exchanged e-mails with plans to meet up once we were settled. Such a small world to run into them in Ghent, Belgium of all places!

After a delicious brunch we took off exploring. Ghent was just beautiful and I wasn't expecting it! The day happened to be Opa and Oma's 39th wedding anniversary! Aren't they cute!

We took a lift to the top of the town belfry to get a bird's eye view of the city, always one of my favorite things to do in European cities. The view did not disappoint!

We loved our time in Belgium, but were very excited to return "home" to start settling in (and to get Jude on a routine once the jet lag wore off!).
