The Dutch celebrate Mother's Day on the same day as in the US. Too bad I couldn't milk two days out of our move abroad :) These two made the day extra special.
Our good friends from New York, Emily, Tim and Alice had arrived the day before and it was really fun to have a friend to share the day with! After sleeping in while Pete took the early-morning Jude shift, we were treated to mimosas and brunch.
Emily and Tim wanted to check out Hoge Veluwe National Park and it had been on our visit list as well. We had the ISA van again for the weekend so after a lazy morning we drove 1 hour east to the park. This is the Netherlands after all, so the park did not consist of mountains, waterfalls or vistas like the National Parks in the US, but it had miles of bike trails through varied (flat) landscape and over 1500 free bicycles to borrow to get around. We didn't have time to make it to the museum within the park, but we stopped for a nice lunch and playground break for the kiddos before strapping them on the bikes and heading to the famous soft serve ice cream spot, Van de Co just outside one of the park entrances.

As we were pulling into our neighborhood, Pete says, "Oh shoot, you're late for your dinner reservation!" The boys made Emily and I a reservation at a restaurant I'd been wanting to try and we enjoyed a mamas' night out!
