Taking to the Slopes!

Skiing in Chamonix is not ski in/ski out. The town is full of people clomping through the streets in their ski boots, heading to the gondola lifts or bus stations to nearby ski areas. And Monday morning, we joined them, dropping the kids off at their first day at L'Ecole du Ski Francais (ESF) and then taking the button lift from their bunny hill up to the Brevent Gondola. We were up the mountain just after 9am and had until 1:30pm when we needed to pick the kids up. We joined the other grown-ups and had a great first morning. The sun was shining and I was relieved that I still knew how to snowboard after not being on one in 8+ years! I did have severe foot cramps the first run of each day so lots of sitting and admiring the views ensued.

After getting a few good runs in, we still had some time before pick-up and headed up together in another cable car to the top of Brevent, where there were great views of Mont Blanc and beers!

We picked the kids up and treated them to McDonalds as a first day treat. After some downtime at home, we walked with them to the other beginning ski area where there is a Winter Toboggan, which was included in our Chamonix Unlimited week pass. A little fun there and then we walked to a Canadian microbrewery for pre-dinner drinks, snacks, and card games.

A beautiful walk back through the picturesque town, made even better with seeing some cool street performers (part of the entertainment for the ski holidays week).
